What's your name and where are you from?
Hi, I'm Jan and I was born in Caerphilly, South Wales. I've lived in the area most of my life; however I have spent a couple of years living in Telford, Nottingham and Wiltshire as well. I do hope to see you all in clinic soon (or to speak with you remotely for now). Clinic has become my haven away from the bustle of family life (and believe me when you have a husband with Christmas cracker-standard jokes...) My hope is that you'll also find it a small haven away from the bustle of your busy day. Opening a new business during COVID-19 is probably madness but it's an exciting new journey and one that I very much hope you'll make with me.
Can you tell me a bit about your background?
After starting in office work, I took 10 years out to raise two beautiful children. More recently I became a teacher because young people constantly amaze me and are fantastic to be around. No two days were ever the same and they did come out with some wonderful gems; the funniest I think was a Year-7 pupil's response to being told next lesson was about reproduction - "but Miss, I can't! I'm a vegetarian!" Both the children are now grown up (we currently have a household of 5 adults) and my husband and I have been truly blessed, as we now also have a beautiful grandson who definitely provides the most sunshine around!
Why did you decide to become an Aromatherapist?
Aromatherapy has been a passion of mine for some years. I got involved because my husband had an accident and I found essential oils helped him manage his symptoms really effectively. From there I started to treat other family members and friends. My daughter is the biggest sceptic going, so if I can convince her, I can definitely say to you that they work! I love essential oils and what they can do for the body - apart from the heavenly smells! My husband tells everyone that he wouldn't be working now if it wasn't for those magic, little bottles and my daughter's latest request is "something for my hair please..."
What did you have to study to become an Aromatherapist?
As I already had two honours degrees, I opted to study a level 4 Aromatherapy diploma. This is a professional diploma for therapists who wish to practice clinically. Level 4 is equivalent to a degree and it involves an in depth study of anatomy and physiology, as well as knowing the oils, their composition and how to use and apply them safely. My diploma was OFQUAL certified and allows me to join the Qualifications Register and the Affiliation of Ethical and Professional Therapists.
Are you insured?
Yes, I have full professional insurance. I am very pleased to say that I gained a distinction in my studies and so you can be absolutely certain that you are in the hands of a qualified professional. I am always happy to chat to people about Aromatherapy, so even if you only have a general interest or a question, do please contact me. I would love to hear from you.
